One Step Beyond...

One step beyond.. when the song plays.. you do the dance of madness.. this image gives an idea of what part of the move looks like.. I have drawn the image and traced it onto illustrator and used live painted..

I am looking at colour variations to give it the right feel of ska/punk.. I have also included the madness logo (tattoo) this needs to be included subtly on all covers I think.. I want all the covers to look similar in the way the image has been designed..

Title needs to do more.. too plain.. I want the stock to become part of the image too..

Bringing the title of album into the image.. rawr looking, which is something that was done a lot back in the day.. 'cheaper' option.. not sure on the red on black.. needs to be played with a bit..

Maybe having the full image isn't needed.. having it bigger may look better visually..

The boots being outlined works better than not.. maybe do the same with the tshirt.. the colours won't be so bright as I am choosing a dull stock, so this should come out quite nice.. I am going to move onto another album cover, but I think I will look at textures later on as well..

Don't like... nothing to do with ska.. too similar.. be simple!! I am going to look at an object that might come from one of their songs from the album.. for example, a dove (wings of a dove) or the hats and shades they wear.. what makes madness?! and show this in an effect way.. I think it would be more interesting..

I want to experiment with the black and white squares that is seen in the ska designs.. I have made a simple grid, laid over one of the album covers I am working with.. I have decided to use straight lines, and no detail.. I have done the first in colour, but I will experiment with colour later..

The grid could change.. having larger or smaller squares or perhaps a mix of the two..

The colours I have seen associated with ska music is red, black and white.. maybe look at how these colours work in this situation..

Tracing the outlines of the person using lines only, and only the detail within the square.. then placing the image with the rest and matching up the squares.. tile kinda effect..

Now they are all together, I can experiment with colour and see how that changes the way the image appears.. 

Madness

For one of my briefs.. I am looking at 'reviving' album covers.. The band I am going to choose is Madness.. as I love their songs and they are very popular with a whole range of people.. 


I want to look at recreating the existing album covers, focusing on shape pattern and colour.. I want to do 7 covers (each may have several variations) and then an overall package which the albums will be sold in.. 


I will then look into doing posters, tshirt designs/bags and other collectable items fans would buy..
